Get to know Amanda Olsson, one’s of Arribatec’s trainers
Companies too often spend vast sums on their business software but continue to undervalue the importance of training. However, our team in The Arribatec Training Centre (ATC) are absolutely committed to it. They are self-confessed training geeks. You can build a modern, complex ERP system with clever config and efficient processes, but it’s all for nothing if people don’t know how to use it. That’s where Amanda Olsson comes in to the equation.
Amanda is the latest addition to the ATC and has years worth of experience working as a Unit4 consultant. We sat down with her this week to get to know more about her training philosophy, and a few keys things sje thinks every Unit4 user needs to know.
Who are you, what do you do, and how long have you been working with Arribatec?
My name is Amanda, and I work as a consultant at Arribatec. I’ve been with the company for about 7 years. I’m fairly new to the ATC department, but I really enjoy being able to deliver training that creates real value for our customers. I’m
currently based in the US, but I also deliver training to Europe — even when
that means some very early mornings!
How much impact can good Unit4 training have on a company?
Good training is crucial — it sets the foundation for how users perceive, understand, and ultimately engage with the system. When training is done well, it not only improves knowledge but also builds confidence and creates a more positive overall experience with Unit4.
If Unit4 ERP had a ‘hidden superpower,’ what would it be, and why do most people miss it?
If Unit4 had a hidden superpower, it would be its ability to give users far more control than they expect. Many ERP systems rely heavily on IT or developers, but in
Unit4, a lot can be done by the users themselves — once they know how. Most people miss this because they approach it like a traditional ERP, and don’t realize how much they can actually own and manage after the right training.
What’s the funniest or most common Unit4 misconception you hear in training, and what’s the boring truth?
A very common misconception is that every Unit4 setup works the same — and that
consultants automatically know everything about every customer’s specific configuration.
The reality is quite the opposite. Every environment is unique, often highly customized, and requires exploration and understanding. Even as consultants, we rely on collaboration, documentation, and experience to navigate each solution. There is no “one-size-fits-all” answer — and that’s actually one of Unit4’s strengths.
If Unit4 ERP were a video game, what are the first 3 ‘powerups’ users should get to become power users? And what’s the final boss they need to defeat?”
- Understanding attributes and values — and how they relate to each other
- Learning the User Master File and Role Master File, and how they connect to menu access and permissions
- Mastering window options and data control
With these, users build a strong foundation in both structure and access.
Final boss:
Understanding and confidently working with access rights and system logic — once you master that, everything else becomes much easier.
What’s your favourite 2-minute fix or tip that can save a lot of time?
Workspaces — definitely! A quick 2-minute tip is to set your Workspace as your start page. It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference by giving you immediate access to what you use most.
Building the perfect workspace might take a bit longer, but even a simple setup combined with personalized Information Browsers can save a huge amount of time in the long run.
I also recommend using the search field actively and saving frequently used screens as favorites — it makes navigation much faster.
Tell us a Unit4 ‘before-and-after’ story: what was the learner struggling with, and what clicked after training?
Before taking the Information Browser course, many users find it complicated,
time-consuming, and even a bit intimidating to build their own browsers.
After the training, something clicks — participants become confident, excited, and eager to create their own views, often discovering functionality they didn’t even
know existed.
If you could prescribe a ‘role-based learning path’ in Unit4 what would each role learn first, and why?
Start with the core: understanding attributes, values, and how the chart of accounts works together with account rules.
This is fundamental knowledge, and anyone new to the system benefits from having a solid grasp of these concepts early on — it makes everything else much easier to understand.
